03/30/2016 A Speech That Would Have Made Waves At AIPAC – OpEd

Even less reported, but arguably most important, was a presentation a few days earlier in Washington, DC by Lawrence Wilkerson, a former US Army Colonel and chief of staff to Secretary of State Colin Powell. In his speech at the Israel’s Influence: Good or Bad for America? conference in Washington, DC, Wilkerson challenged the contention that there is any foreign policy or national security benefit whatsoever from unwavering US support for Israel. Indeed, Wilkerson convincingly argues that such support creates danger for America. More

03/23/2016 Tikkun Daily: Gideon Levy on Israel's Influence on America

In his keynote address to the March 18 “Israel’s Influence: Good or Bad for America?” conference, Israeli journalist Gideon Levy described where he would take, and what he would say to, a U.S. congressional delegation to Israel.

He would take them, Levy said, to meet the Abu Khoussa family in Gaza, whose 6-year-old daughter and 10-year-old son were killed in an Israeli missile strike on their home. He would tell them about 16-year-old American Mahmoud Saalan of Tampa, Florida, who had been shot dead at a military checkpoint by Israeli soldiers, allegedly for carrying a knife. And, Levy said, he would also take the American legislators to Hebron, because “I never met an honest human being who had been to Hebron and didn’t come back after a few hours in shock.” More

03/21/2016 Antiwar.com: What's up with the Ides of March?

Speaking of Israel and the 2016 presidential election: that was the subject of my talk at a recent conference on “Israel’s Influence: Good or Bad for America?” It was quite an experience speaking to an audience made up of many Muslims, leftists, and others not inclined to contemplate my contrarian view – which is that Donald Trump’s promise to be “evenhanded” on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is the most reasonable position of anyone in the race. Yet, as you can see below, the response was much more favorable than I thought it would be. More

WASHINGTON, Dec. 16, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ Rula Jebreal is an award-winning journalist, author, and foreign policy analyst. Her first novel, Miral, sold two million copies and was made into a major motion picture. She frequently appears on CNN, HBO and Bloomberg News, and has contributed op-eds to The New York Times, the Washington Post, Foreign Policy, The Guardian, Newsweek, The Nation, and San Jose Mercury News. Jebreal has anchored multiple television shows in both Italy and Egypt, and reports extensively from across the Middle East, Europe, and the U.S., frequently challenging Islamophobic rhetoric and media on coverage of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Jebreal will be discussing why lumping all Muslims into one monolithic, extremist-linked bracket is actually a victory for ISIS, as well as how and why the media abrogates its responsibility to cover all sides of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Gideon Levy is a journalist for the Israeli newspaper Haaretz, and is widely considered the “dean” of Israeli journalism. His columns about politics, money, how Israel's military occupation is changing Israeli society and about U.S.-Israel relations are widely read and discussed around the world. Video of Levy’s presentation at last year’s conference has gone viral and received over 200,000 views. Levy will outline what politicians, members of Congress and media elites visiting Israel should know about the situation on the ground—as opposed to what hundreds are told on junkets organized by the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC).
